Violet Maurine Hill Armstrong, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2011 at the Shelby Manor.She was born in Shelbyville, Illinois on July 5, 1919 to Cora May Huffman Hill and James Hill and spent much of her childhood in the Dugout area near Shelbyville, Illinois.
Deeply devoted to family, she was a generous wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had many hobbies including gardening, quilting, creative writing and genealogy.She counted numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends as part of her family circle.
She is survived by her children Dennis Walter (Shirley), Larry Eugene, Terrel Haydenand Kathleen Cione (Randy) Hardesty and grandchildren, Jennifer (Craig) Bergman, Eric (Marcie) Armstrong, Kyle (Bridget) Armstrong, Jaime(Brian) Harvey and Paige Alison Hardesty and great-grandchildren, Elise Armstrong, Wyatt, Gunnar and Sydney Bergman and Brynna and Charlie Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard Eugene Armstrong whom she married on October 13, 1943 and faithfully served and supported during twenty years of Army service and two overseas assignments.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and five siblings – Elsie Holsinger, Mildred Milligan, Virgil Hill, Cecil Hill and Florence Hill.
Our family would like to thank Lincolnland Hospice and the staff of the Shelby Manor, her home since May 2006, for taking wonderful care of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shelby Manor.Private burial will be in Hudson Cemetery.Donations may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or the Shelby Manor.Thank you to Lockart-Green Funeral Home for memorial and burial arrangements.
